Just thought I'd bring this to the board's attention. A good "misery loves company" story. http://www.mcsweeneys.net/2001/08/30pastorek.html http://www.mcsweeneys.net/2001/08/31pastorek.html
Oh wow. I had heard about the loss of the Testore in the flood, but reading aboud hosing off pieces of a 360+ year old Testore with a garden hose makes it even sadder somehow. What a story. Monte
Depressing! Not that I have any irreplaceable double basses, but I've always had the fear of coming around the corner and finding my house burned down. I guess it comes from an experience in 1975 when we did show up on Sat., for the second night of a gig, and the bar had burned down. That makes quite an impression when all your amps, speakers, monitors, drums, etc., everything but your bass has been charbroiled, and you were just about a week or two from finalizing your insurance policy.
