Does anyone know what gear (amp, cabs, bass, etc.) Rocco Prestia used in recording Tower of Power's "Knock Yourself Out?" I believe it was recorded back in 1971 and it's the first song on their anthology CD.

I saw TOP play in the 70's and Chaka Khan & Rufus opened
for them. Many years later I met Chester Thompson (keys)
and he said it was the good ole' days, enjoyed that gig a lot.

At that time I saw Rocco using a 60's Precision with an
SVT live. In the studio I think he was using an Ampeg B15 or going direct?? I 'm not sure. There's interview with him in Bass Player Dec 97 where he mentions he goes direct and
mikes his GK 2000 RB (but thats more recent).

Occasionally Tom Politzer (sax) is our sub if he's in town.

    Thanks!

I borrowed the CD from someone a few days ago and couldn't stop playing that song! It had really good classic bass tone (aside from the great playing). I can totally see how a Precision would be a part of that setup and possibly that Ampeg. I'll check out the site. Thanks again!

    Ya Welcome!
You may want to send an email to Rocco via TOP web site
and get the info from him direct. Or just wait until they 're
in your area ( check their tour schedule) and see if you can
talk to him after the show.
I talked to him briefly many years ago after their show at the
county summer fair in N. Calif (Pleasant Hill).
