Rock, Alternative and Metal Bands with Slap Bass?

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by FEBass, Jul 16, 2020.

  1. Do any of you play in a rock, alternative or metal band that incorporates funky slap bass, a la Chili Peppers, Primus, and Infectious Grooves? My band curates a spotify list of funk rock (very loosely defined) spanning the 70s to today. We like to include independent bands when we can find them but it's been tough lately. Any suggestions?

Here's a link to the list if you're interested in checking it out: Funk Rock - Primus , Peppers and More - Must Hear Funk Rock, Pop, Etc., a playlist by Escape Goat on Spotify

Dave Allen, with Gang of Four...

    ...and Dave Allen, with Shriekback...

Allen’s replacement, Sara Lee, had some moves....

Lots of great moments on this whole album...
The early 80’s UK post-punk scene had all sorts of stuff going on... well as NYC...
Then there’s the wonderful world of Wobble. Although he’s rooted in dub reggae bass, he’s gone in so many different musical directions and worked with a mutitude of people...
I found it amusing to see XTC on that list, but I guess this would work...

I play with some friends from college in an original project that meets that very loosely defined description :smug:

These are a couple of cuts from the last album we recorded (which might be the last album we record if our adult responsibilities have anything to say about it :roflmao:). Feel free to spin em if you see fit. I can share the whole project with you if you're interested. Just PM me

For something more modern and not exactly funky, but tons of slap: Maximum the Hormone. We covered many of their songs with my hobby band a few years ago (which was only possible because our singer was Japanese). I played guitar in that band, but the bassist was having the time of his life.

    Great Mix!

I have an album on Spotify, but I'm not funky. I wish I was.

My brother is a monster on the bass. Check out The World Does Not Revolve, by Stranglmartin.
