Rock Star Spoofs . . .

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by FatStringer52, Aug 25, 2019.

  1. Probably not too many out there, but thought I'd see how many we could come up with. "Rock Star" is used quite loosely here -- any music genre star being spoofed will work for this.

My all-time favorite - John Belushi / Joe Cocker from Saturday Night Live

Another would have to be Eric Foreman as Steven Tyler from "That 70's Show"

    How many more are there?

SNL has always been a great source over the years, but one that stands out for me is Molly Shannon as Courtney Love...

There isn’t much that can top “The Rutles” for wicked parody, but this scene from “Walk Hard”(the Dewey Cox character himself is a mash up/send up of far more people than just Johnny Cash)comes close, even if it’s a bit forced...

  6. That is some funny stuff. But not really what I had in mind. That's a great idea for another thread . . .

What was once satire became reality with the eventual Time-Life series volumes...

  10. Wow! I never heard of it before (and that was my generation). Musta got stoned and missed it . . .

It emerged right after the Paul Is Dead hysteria, and in the era of Paul and John singing back up vocals with the Stones(“We Love You”), Brian Jones playing sax on “You Know My Name”, George hanging/jamming with Dylan, the Dirty Mac, and so on, plus the ‘supergroup’ phenomenom in general. The album was floated as a secret jam session between The Beatles, Stones, and Dylan, but was so bad that only starstruck idiots would fall for it.

Yeah, but that spoofs everybody(in vague terms), and no one in particular, directly. OK, so Nigel is sorta kinda Jeff Beck, but Beck isn’t an idiot and isn’t a larger-than-life household name that anyone(for the most part)would get it. The exploding/dead drummer thing, you could say, is faintly based on the cursed keyboardist status in the Grateful Dead, maybe. All the band drama, well, that’s every group that ever existed, from combos that never got far from the garage to The Beatles.
