  2. Wow, Rolling Stone is still published?
I thought it died years ago and became just another flaky People/Us rag-mag.

  3. That's an okay list, considering they only had ten slots to fill. While Dark Side of the Moon made the list, I'm thinking there are proggier Floyd albums out there, although DSOTM is so popular it will always float to the top of any poll. Same thing with Rush's Moving Pictures, although 2112 and Hemispheres both rightfully made the list. Meanwhile Dream Theatre stuffed the ballot box and bogarted a slot that I would rather see filled with, say, Fragile or Deloused in the Comatorium.

Dream Theatre needed to be in there somewhere, if its the top 10.

They were #1. Also would have had 3-4 other albums listed in the poll, because they apparently posted a link to the poll on their web site.

  7. I think that the list is decent, with all the biggies in there - I mean, Rush, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Dream Theater... who else should show up? I dig other prog bands, but none have the same traction.

Not a bad list as far as "Best of Genre" polls usually end up.

As is my usual response regarding Dream Theater: "Bah Humbug!"

And if you're talking prog rock, they never existed at all.

I love Rush, but really, three Rush albums in the top ten? RS must be trying to make up for lost time.

  13. Super entry level prog, several albums from the same bands, and the number one spot taken by a prog-metal band who rallied their fans personally....

    Typical Rolling Stone BS.

  14. funny how rolling stone all of a sudden likes Rush.

I'm a Prog nut and I love Rush but.... Rush isn't Prog. They had Prog influences surely, but they aren't Prog. Neither is Floyd, or Dream Theater. And Dream Theater sucks anyway. Useless poll.

One of my all time favorite progressive bands is U.K. Their 1st album is a classic with singer/bassist John Wetton (formerly of King Crimson, Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry's band and Uriah Heep), keyboardist/electric violinist Eddie Jobson (formerly of Curved Air, Roxy Music and Frank Zappa's band), guitarist Allan Holdsworth (formerly of Tempest, Soft Machine, The New Tony Williams Lifetime and Gong) and drummer Bill Bruford (formerly of Yes and King Crimson).

U.K. - In the Dead of Night

A few more of my favorite prog bands are:

    Saga
    Gentle Giant
Kansas - They had lots of prog tunes (Song For America is great!)

I found this list of progressive bands on the Internet. They are in no particular order. I would consider some of these acts pure prog and some a combination of prog with other styles. However, these are the acts that made the list.
