I saw Cake's guitarist use an instrument cable that appeared to be contained within a rope light, similar to this:

Any idea where one could find out info on this? I have a feeling it's neither practical nor particularly cheap to acquire if made on the mass market. I can't find it on the popular search engine site, but thought someone here might know about it...

Just buy some light rope and use zip ties to secure your cable to it.

I'd be concerned that it would impart noise into your signal.

I spend time keeping my gear AWAY from electrical interference from lighting, and here someone wants to put it running alongside the entire cable. :meh:

I can't really imagine a tiny current like a light rope affecting your signal, not like its florescent bulbs or anything. If its good enough for Cake, I think the OP can handle it.

Do you know how little current it takes to impart noise in your gear? Do you know how much current is in a light rope? Is this all an assumption?

    Just playing devil's advocate here.

I don't know anything about the product, that's why I came here. It may have been something as simple as BackwaterBass suggested -- tying a rope light to a cable, but it looked as if it went directly into his input jack and didn't appear to have any securing. I wasn't up front at the show, but it did seem like a potentially cool item to have, if price and performance -- as Eric Moesle keeps pointing out --are within reason.
