I wanted to give 6 string a try and do so with a quality bass. Well, this is about as good as it gets. I picked this up in June in Greensboro, NC. It is a superb bass in tone, looks and playability. I have decided that I am going to stick with a 5 string as its just more practical for what I do.

The top is a very sweet piece of quilt maple. The body is ash. It has an oil finish. The neck is 3 piece maple with a beautifully grained Wenge board. Bartolini jazz pups and preamp. 35" scale and month old DR Hi Beams. Comes with Roscoe gig bag, tools and letter from Keith.

$2,300 shipped Con US. Please, no trades.

  2. What a great looking bass! I actually like the un-carved tops better. If I weren't still on my maniacal hunt for a fretless 6 this would be right in my crosshairs.

The wenge just pops. Is there some consensus on what the wenge board does for the tone?

    Cheers.

It's been a tough decision. I could play either and be fine, but I think in the long run, a 5 will cover my needs and I'm just more comfy on it.

I don't see myself incorporating a lot of chord playing, and with a 24 fret 5 string, I have most of the range of a 6 for solos and stuff. Honestly, I think I let myself get a little swept up in the "Jimmyness" of master classes, lessons, etc. when I ordered this. In hindsight, the same bass with 5 strings is what I should have done.

I still have much to work on from my lesson that can certainly be done on a 5 or 4 for that matter.

The way things are right now, I'll probably have both for a while anyway. Enjoy the beer. I'm guessing you aren't the only one.

Man that 5 you have is killer but I really dig this. I wonder if I could utilize a 6.

That has been my debate. I can utilize a 6, but I think in the long run for me, a 5 is more practical for me. I don't have a lot of practice time once school starts and a lot of my "gigs" are sit in and quick run troughs and I am just not comfy doing that with the 6.

  7. I'd cry foul on the beer thing, but I can't remember the specifics. :ninja:

This is a great bass at a very attractive price.
