Hi, first post. Inspired by John k's mockingbird mods, i veneered my own mock headstock. I'm ready to finish and I'm lost. It's a 1/32 inch veneer, so I can't sand much. Do I seal and then clear, or just clear? I'll probably use a Home Depot spray poly in an attempt to match the factory poly. Thanks! Before and after shots attached
I think people get confused by the term sealer. Its just a higher solids clear that builds faster. The poly clear will seal the wood just as well. A sealer isn't necessary
Whats your goal for the finish? If you want a high gloss finish you will need to build up enough finish to sand it level and completely fill the grain. Then wet sand and polish
