Discussion in 'Bows and Rosin [DB]' started by Al Smith, May 1, 2006.

  1. Can there be any discussion about the "right" rosin for a particular string? OK! Arco/ Dominants : which rosin?

    OR: Orchestra,"Gut" Which rosin>?

or; orchestra/arco : "steel strings" ; which rosin?

I never thought I would ask about which rosin to use with which string - but - now I have. Any comments? - Al

Carlsson will not let you down under any circumstances.
  3. That's a good question, but I agree with TBeers.
  4. I use Thomastik steel strings and Carlsson rosin only !

I find myself using the very same rosin independently of the type of string that I use.
Somehow I don't think most people feel the need to use a certain rosin with a certain type of string.

The proof is also in our friends comments, they claim carlsson's works well in any situation (ie: any string), I think the same about Pop's, others may think the same about Kolstein etc...
  6. Upon further research I found this comment in a catalogue
regarding rosin; "Steel strings require a less adhesive rosin, synthetic strings a medium rosin and gut strings a more adhesive rosin." Of course it also can depend on personal style, bow hair and instrument.

I will now order some "Carlsson" bass rosin.

Thanks for all of your replys to my question. - Al
