I love flats and have played them until now when i decided to buy some roundwounds. I like the tone but they make noise when fretting notes, my friend at the local store said that's how roundwounds are, you can't make the sound go away, is he right?

No. You can eliminate nearly all of this noise. It is coming from your technique not the strings. Flatwound string hide many of the high frequency clicks and zings you're hearing while rounds will let them ring out loud and clear.

Concentrate on not sliding your fingers along the strings or hammering the frets down too hard and most of these noises will disappear.
