Roundwounds vs Flatwounds ??

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Godcreep, Nov 11, 2001.

  1. Hello guys ...

I was just wondering, what's exactly the difference between roundwounds and flatwounds, I don't mean the way they're made or so, but just what's the difference in playin', tone, lasting etc ... Which of the 2 do you prefer and why ?
I have always played roundwounds so ....

well instead of you people being mean and having him do searches you could just answer his question even if theres probubly a million of them if you search, oh well

round wounds have more punchy sound like you'll hear in more of the newer bands,,,

yet flatwound/tapewounds have more of a deep/ upright bass sound more jazzy sound, its like the old ben e king sound, but the tape/flatwounds give less sustain, but they make less finger noise that gets heard by the pickups than roundwounds, hope that helped,,,and for future notice, if you guys arent gonna help people, way are you guys even in this board? were here to help and if you asked a question we would try to help too

    LOL. :)

Heelflip86 -- Welcome to TalkBass. Relax, man! I assure you rsautrey recommended a search because this topic (and others like it) have been covered many times before. Folks just get tired of replying to the same questions over and over -- it's time consuming! No one is trying to be mean -- just want to save some time and effort for all involved.

Godcreep -- go ahead and do the search, and if you still have questions, feel free to ask. I'm sure many here (myself included) will be happy to help you if they know you've done your "homework."

    Peace.

  5. Ok guys ... thanx for the replies,
    and I WILL do a search ...
    ;)

I wasn't being mean, I was asking a serious question. You should always search something before you ask, especially a question like that. Sorry, but I'm sure most moderators would agree.
