The Peavey PV 1200 I bought used just came in, and since the cab hasn't arrived, I want to see if all the knobs and switches work, or at least if it starts. Will something bad happen if I just plug in and see if everything works? I may be able to improvise something out of 2 old 30w speakers, but I'd have to dig out some cables (this particular peavey came with 4 of those clamp-type outputs and a pair of speakons, and I was expecting jack outputs, as pictured in the online manual, so that's a headache on its own).

  2. As far as I know, its only a bad idea with tubes.

    But I can't confirm it.

  3. For solid state amps there is no need for a load or cab to be attached ...
