Okay, I've never actually ran my amp through a PA. What output jack on my head (Peavey Firebass) do I use, and what type of cable?

The 'low z balanced line out' of the firebass is designed for that purpose, you need a microphone cable (XLR pins).
But I guess you could also use the pre-amp out and connect it to the line input of the mixer using a guitar cable. What I would not do is connect the pre-amp out to the low z input of the mixer - I understand that the level of the pre-amp out is too high for that.
Using the balanced line out pre-EQ gives you the same result as if you plug the bass directly into the PA by using a DI-box.
I personally never use the post-EQ signal of my H&K because you need different EQ settings on the PA anyway, and this also gives me the possibility to change my EQ-settings without confusing the sound man.
