Like the title says. The russian pickle is the best fuzz. I used to have a bass muff. I've also had modded tube screamers, mxr blowtorch, and this a huge improvement and I can get all the fuzz tones in my head. I cant get a bad sound of it. Blows the others out of the water. With my spector, other worldly. Highly recommended. Added info: With a bassballs and octave. you get into synth territory.
Will post them after I get a chance to mic up my cab, or decide to try and capture a cellphone vid worth something.
Agreed. Clips or it didn't happen. Also... to be completely snarky for no reason, moving from an MXR Blowtorch, any pedal would sound like the holy grail of fuzz tone. I apologize in advance for any Blowtorch users that I have just angered.
I'd have to agree man, the WH Russian Pickle is awesome. Very musical muff. I wish I could get mine back. Hopefully I'll have it again someday.
i hated the blowtorch. It just sounded extreme in an unusable way. The bass muff was lacking balls so to speak.
It was the first I knew of bass fuzz / overdrive that had a blend, 3 eq center points, 2 stages of drive, 3 bands of eq under the 3 centers. It could get synthy or it could produce light overdrive. It can produce massive low end. Try running the Pickle through it with 40/60 blend or the opposite. I only gave up the Blowtorch (and the Pickle not Russian) when the TAFM and Wounded Paw Attack Goat arrived, around 2008. I guess I like super-fuzz variants and starving circuits sounds better than muffs, but also like the Pharaoh as a Pickle Muff replacement.
It's a damn fine fuzz. The best Way Huge Pickle in my opinion. Not the best fuzz I've tried, but it's close. Which octave do you use? might have to try this out. The Bass Big Muff sucking is a popular opinion here, I've owned one for years, and it's a pretty terrible fuzz pedal.
I use an EBS Octave true bypass version. I had the other earlier version and they both sound the same. I've also enjoyed using the bassballs before the octave and after the fuzz. Massive sound.
Most stack-able fuzz ever, can just add higher harmonics and let the thicker sound through. By itself it can do a bit of crunchy natural tube distortion sound. Even works well after envelopes for overdriven envelopes! it's in the eq and blend, all you might need is 25%.
