I opened my Mesa 400+ to change a pre tube and noticed the trannys are starting to rust. It must have been from warm gig to cold truck this winter.
What can I do to clean and coat it. Didn't they used to varnish them? Thank You

I bought a 69 Sunn 2000s several years back. The transformer was rusty when I bought it and rusty when I sold it. It didn't hurt a thing. :ninja:

I know, I left my 2000s alone also, but the boogie is newer.

What part of the transformer is rusty? The end bells (covers) or the core (the laminated steel part)?

Usually the core and coil are varnish impregnated before the end bells are installed.

I personally wouldn't worry about either, it's not like it's going to rust out or anything...unless you live on the Gulf or something.
