For those of you who like Mudvayne and Ryan's style of playing I thought I would share my joy. I just won passes from a local radio station to an Ozone recording session in Philadelphia with Mudvayne. This is like being in your living room and having Mudvayne play and record live. KICK ASS! I also received tickets for the live show later that night. It is going to be an all Mudvayne day. I just thought I would share my Joy. I will report back after I see them. Dave
This is the part where I kill you and I am claimed the winner Sike...congrats man,I'd love to do that...it'd be crazy! Have fun! -Jon
i third that! And Jon, you would then have to battle me for the final round of getting those tickets PICS PICS PICS PICS PICS is what we want! And a report on how cool it is and how we all missed something great.
Obselex, and me. You suck so much! We need pics, and an extremely long written account of the entire afternoon. Just remember how many of us would kill to be in your shoes! Congrats man.
If you talk to Ru-d, could you ask him to get with a truly musical band where he can really shine, like Primus???
I will be buying another 64 or 128 MB memory card for my digital camera so I can take lots of pics. I have never been to one of these but my singer (who is also going) went to Helmet and said you get to meet and greet the band after they play. I think only like 50 or so people will be attending the Ozone session. The night gig is a regular gig. I found out and picked up the passes yesterday and have been flippin out like crazy. He is a hugh influence on my playing and I still can not believe I am going. The shows are this comming Wednesday so I will fill everyone in on Thursday.
Osama Spears, No problem I will try to get that for you. Quick clarification: To play or to listen to? I know I have songs I like to play because of a cool bass part but it is not my favorite song to listen to. I have two gear guestions for him as well. Does he use the MEC pups that come with the Warwick thumb or does he change them out and the other is how does he set up his bass or rig to keep the low B string so tight sounding live in drop tunings. Anyone eles have questions? I would be happy to ask as many as I can. Keep in mind I am not sure how long I will have to talk with him. Most likely just enough time for small talk while he signs an autograph.
Just in general...playing and listening too,I'd greatly appreciate it....oh,and can you tell him Jon said hi? it'll make me feel extra speshul if he knows I am a fan I appreciate this man.. its kinda like a guy going to rob a 7-11 and I'm askin' him to grab me some Slurpee's...thanks alot dude Have fun! -Jon
Speaking on behalf of myself and Obsolex, just get as much info as possible and a crapload of pics (get the 128mb mem card!)
I wanna know.....With all his talent and Jazz love and such. Why did he join mudvayne? I mean...without him and the drummer, the band would suck....and without him they would be a local band still strugling. Like they were before he joined. Just ask him what made him think of mixing his jazz style slap and finger tap into the crazy metal. Ive been wondering that forever. And congrats. Closest Ive been to him was crowd surfing and getting grabed by a 300 pound beast of a bouncer, lol..Hes my idol too.
From what I remember reading on how he joined Mudvayne (this is where I butcher the story for lack of memory) He was playing in a local band and actually opened up for mudvayne with his other band then yada yada he ends up joining Mudvayne. I believe he has always played in heavy groups but loves Jazz as well. This seems to be a trend as of late. The bass player from P.O.D. was playing Jazz etc and then joined POD so I guess it is a money thing as well as a love for all kinds of musical styles. Just my .02 cents from my poor memory. I will try to find the magazine that this was mentioned in. I believe it mentioned his love for jazz and how it all came about.
Ask Ryan what all goes into his signal chain, compressors or effects, which amp model, ect. Specifically compressor (I dig the sound he gets) Also, if you could what wireless unit he uses, that'd be just keen. Tell him about Talkbass, see if you can get him to register! That'd be neat to have him come be a part of TB.
