I'm not sure, but I think Bobby Vee sang all of those old James Brown tunes.
I think Nelson sang those Merle Haggard ditties. Or maybe that was Streisand. Age, damn!

the only Happy Days song outside of the credits I can recall:
Put Your Head on My Shoulder , sung by Potsie...
I Just old enough to remember begin disappointed when they dropped Rock Around The Clock from the opening credits.
Out of the last 3 posts, the Johnnie Ray is the only possibility.
WOW
Well, I just listened to "Cry" by Jonnie Ray. Awesome! Amazing! Extraordinary! It's not exactly the one I was thinking of, BUT...I think it was used exactly in the same kind of scenes I described. (The vocal even sounds like the Kingston Trio song.)
Great find!
"Cry" is probably even be better than the one I originally thought of, but there is still the other one I'm a little curious about.
(But honestly I don't care as much anymore)
But Johnnie Ray's is definitely the superior song! I'm in love with this song now.
Thanks! This really made my day.
Was it Little Richard? Can I hit it and quit?i never thought of using TB as a 'prosthetic' for my own older-than-rocks memory limitations/issues. this is great! does anyone remember who sang all those great old james brown tunes?
