Anyone own one? if so, has anyone had one built with a different wood other than the usual maple / swamp ash? how does the ebony board change things up? does the maple top make that much of a difference in tone? also, how did the EMG's differ from Roger's current design? just trying to get a concensus of things.
To me it sounds tighter than the Jazz 5, because the pickups are closer to each other, and closer to the bridge. It also has less character and sounds cleaner, more modern. I love the fingerstyle sound but I prefer the slap sound of the Jazz 5. I have owned model #3570 with EMGs and I think the new pickups are a huge improvement. I found the EMG 40J too "heavy" sounding. The new pickups are warmer, with more midrange. The EMG 40J were just too bright and low end was too punchy! These pickups are hot - If you play fingerstyle and let your fingers bump on the pickups, you hear a "thump". I have not this problem with the new pickups. I'd be interested in checking how the 24F sounds with an ebony board.
I find the same difference in the pickups but I like the EMG's better. More aggressive, much meaner sounding. I Know Jeff Raider has a Spalt top fretless w/EMG & an Ebony board. <img src="http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=1043419">
great basses, Ari!!! and daaaag, i didnt know you had two of 'em! cool sound samples btw. i'm sure the clips i'm drooling over are the Sadowsky ones. and thx for the heads up, guys.
Are you sure I'm gonna see in the blin tests threads if you already posted some replies..hehe The slap one is tough and I'm not sure I've even found my own product in there ! haha Peace, JP
Damn! Ari Another sadowsky! Did you know that in french Ari means: I have more Sadowsky basses than Roger himself...? The burst one with EmG is awesome! Aaarggggghhhhh! YES, I AM JEALOUS!
I think Ari doesn't have this bass anymore. He traded it for the caramel burst one with sadowsky soapbars. Peace, JP
In fact I bought the caramel burst then traded the #3570 sunburst against Horace's MTD 535. I have seen #3570 on bassgear not so long ago. The #3860 with the ebony board looks killer! His pictures look great... I wonder which sort of light he uses to take the pics. Ari
