    Location:

Totally outstanding Sadowsky Modern 5-string with very light chambered mahogany body and a visually stunning Ziricote top.
Recently sold here on TB via this amusing thread which contains a couple good quality sound samples:
No longer available - Sadowsky NYC Modern Mahogany body Ziricote Top Madagascar RW Fretboard OHSC

    Specs from Sadowsky web site:
    MODEL 5-24 Modern
    SERIAL #5740
    FINISH 59′ burst
BODY Chambered Mahogany with Ziricote top
WEIGHT 7.96 lbs. per Sadowsky (I measured it at 7 lbs. 13.5 oz.)
NECK Maple with thin matte nitro finish
FINGERBOARD Madagascar Rosewood, 12″ radius, 1.875″ nut width
    PICKGUARD None
HARDWARE Black, with Hipshot USA ultralight tuners
PICKUPS Sadowsky soapbar in modern locations
PREAMP Sadowsky preamp with volume, blend, vintage tone control (pull for passive), treble/bass boost
    PRICE $4,200 (originally $6250)
CASE Sadowsky rectangular hardshell in 99.5% condition.

    Cosmetic issues:
One small ding on the bottom side (facing the floor when you are playing).
A few small dings on the headstock, one on the edge, and a few on the face, which I am guessing are scratches from wayward string ends when someone was carelessly reinstalling pre-used strings. (My best guess based on the evidence.) Also a small dark mark on the back of the headstock.
Some finish wear on the tops of some of the saddles.
These issues are shown in photos #7, 8, 18, and 19.

Bass plays BEAUTIFULLY and sounds absolutely FANTASTIC.
Action and intonation are perfect, and it is ready to gig or record.
A word of caution: When I plugged it in to test it out after dialing in the setup, it took almost 5 hours before I was able to pry it out of my own hands and put it down and go to bed. At the start of that session, I recorded this detailed video walkthrough and tone demo with my cell phone (so watch it with headphones):

$4,200 plus ACTUAL shipping via carrier of your choice, shipping to the USA only.
Sorry, no trades. I might consider something from Adamovic, LeFay, Skjold, or Fodera. But really, I have everything I could possibly need, and would really like to just sell it.
This bass will make some lucky person very, very happy.

My old bass, I’m the original owner. I regret selling it everyday that goes by.

I do not doubt that one bit!
Lucky for you, it's now available to be reunited with you - send me a PM and we can work something out.
I have a soft spot in my heart for returning basses to their original owners.

Thanks Dave! Yeah, it is always a delight when visual beauty and great tone and playability are all found together in the same instrument!

And then finding one that is below 8 pounds is the icing on the cake!

Yeah, I forgot that you also mentioned how light it is.

Too bad for me I'm not desperately looking for a reason to spend another $4K on something right now. :bawl:

I own a modern 5 too.... There is no doubt those basses are absolutely fantastic!!! Simply the best I ever played/owned/tried/gigged/rehearsed....
The on ly little thing I regret about it is the slap tone. Not exactly as clean and dynamic as my Sadowsky Jazz 5. But the massive tone it produces is second to none. The B string si simply outstanding, and cant be muddy in any ways...
    Don't hesitate, take it now!!

Obviously the pickup and preamp are great, but I think it's the combination of the mahogany and the rosewood that work together so well to make this sing so beautifully like it does.

Uhh, that sound man.... Funny is that balance pot works reversed on Sadowsky pre-amp... anyone does it know, why?

I messed up in the video because I only just got this bass a few days ago, and had not spent any time learning it before making the video.

I have had a whole bunch of basses. In my experience, about 80% of them are one way, and 20% of them are the other way. I have even had two from the same builder that were opposite. Obviously there is no official standard like there is on a volume pot or a tone pot. For the 80% group, clockwise means moving toward the neck pickup. For the 20% group, clockwise means making a brighter tone, which requires moving toward the bridge pickup.

For the case where I had two basses by the same builder that were different, I swapped the two leads on the blend pot. It took 5 minutes, and then they were both the same.

I never had any interest in the Moderns until I was at the Sadowsky shop to pick out a Jazz. None of the Jazzes in stock were doing it for me and, on a whim, I picked up one of the Moderns that was hanging on the rack. I played it for a while and then went back to trying to decide between a couple of Js. "Hmm, let me try that Modern one more time". I kind of didn't want to like the Modern so much (I was there to get a Jazz after all) but in the end I had to face the fact that it was (to me) the best sounding bass in the shop. Same wood combo as the one in this ad by the way. :)

Wow, cool story! I would not have thought there were too many with this combo, I had never seen it before.

The top on mine might be cocobolo, but it has the same look (with the yellowish stripe at the join). Same body and fretboard wood for sure though. It sounds fantastic. Super punchy and articulate, and very even across the strings. The B string on the couple of Moderns I’ve played have been amongst the best I’ve experienced.

Well, actually it didn't. I just didn't update the listing yet.
It is sold pending local pickup tomorrow.
I wasn't sure if I should change it to show "SOLD" while it is still here at my house.
I guess we can call it SALE PENDING until tomorrow.
