Hi there, Any one know of any basses with a similar shape and look to a Sadowsky Jazz bass?
Looking for makers of a Jazz bass with fancy looking figured (Birds eye) bodies with Maple fingerboards. Price range of $1200. I would go down the WARMOTH custom bass route, but as i live in the U.K. cost would be a big factor. Yeah, i know this is a bit of a strange question, but i though i would give it a go anyway.

Thanks!

Not necessarily so, at least in Europe.

Marleaux, Human Base and others offer reasonably priced Js.

Have you looked into Lull basses? I haven't played them but owners seem to love them & I beleive you might find a used one in the price you asking.

Bruce made a very dood point w/the FMT Jazz & Victor Bailey. Very beautiful basses.

Warmoth is also a great choice but the shipping/duty might kill you. I've built a Sadowsky clone & I love it. For more pictures & a full description, CLICK HERE.

Hi, The finish on the Warmoth bass you have Nino-Brown is exactly what i'm looking for. WARMOTH do an excelent Dyed Green 4A Lam-top finish. Pitty Import chrages are so high. Still giving WARMOTH some thought.

The web page for shukerguitars.com seems to be down

Them HOT-wire basses look good, but i would have to price into them.

Mike Lull basses look nice, but are they really worth the money? not to struck on the headstock. The bass player out of QUEENSRYCHE seems to love em.

May just hold out for a Sadowsky. There really is something wonderful about Sadowsky jazz basses.
Love the headstock on e'm

P.S. I bought a MODULUS FLEA CUSTOM 4 a while back, and it's one mighty fine bass! It was pre-owned by RANDY-HOPE TAYLOR (Jeff beck) and he fitted two lane poor musicman pickups on it. When i get a camera i will post a pick of it.

I've never seen any Lull basses in the UK - where the poster mentioned he/she lives - also the other Europan basses mentioned never appear in the UK and importing them would push the price up way beyond the limit mentioned!

The Fenders are the only ones you are likely to see in the UK - we do see used Sadowskys - usually about £2,000 or just under.

The only other realistic option is a custom luthier like Sei or Overwater who make Jazz-style instruments.

You can fing jazz bodies and necks (with paddle headstock if you want to cut out the sadowsky shape...) at Stewart Mac donald...

Well - as they point out on their site - you would have to add on shipping costs, customs duty and VAT at 17.5% - all adding hugely and probably a waste of time when you can get loads of Jazz-style basses made in the UK or in the shops.

Well, maybe from UK you should take the eurostar to get to PARIS...PIGALLE!
You'll find many Jazz basses or clones.

But the point is that the original poster who asked the question, saidthey were based in the UK!

I bet London has more basses than Paris! ;)
