    the one on the bottom.

    i love it!

my Sadowsky Vintage 4 and Modern 5 have the top 2 spots for fretted basses.

something about this Modern 5 compared to the Sad V5 i got earlier that is just so.

haven't quite figured it out yet, but the V5 hardly gets played now.

but, in all fairness, i need to take the 2 5ers out for a spin with my full rig (QSC PLX, Aggie DB659, Bergie HT212).

i'm sure both will have a place in my heart.

i REALLY like the Sadowsky soapbars. i haven't tried the EMGs Roger used to use and NINO San raves about.

warm, round, full with that bit of "hair" engineers always talk about.

the V5 and Modern 5 don't "feel" the same either.

i need to figure this out.

    (breaks out the digital calipers).

My guess is that the differences in "feel" is partialy due to the different fretboards. I've found that fretboard materials significantly contribute to feel and tone. IMO, the differences between birdseye maple and plain maple are more than just looks. Just my $.02.
  3. i have to agree with ya JR!!!

i'm a rosewood boy from WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back.

my first bass was a 1970 fretless P (NO LINES!) wit' a rosewood board.

could be that the M5 just feels like home.

  4. Very nice, Fred!

Can't wait to get my new Modern 5 fretted. It's getting close - I can just feel it!
