No longer available - Sadowsky NYC Vintage 5-24

Grabbed this sucker off of the inimitable, always-sets-up-the-bass-with-this-sweet-low-action @Latinbass .

I ended up loving the 'Soaps in JPosition' thing so much, I grabbed an alder/amazon RW version and this bass needs to help pay for that bit o' fun.

NO trades please. I don't mind checking out an ash/maple Japanese Metro PJ5 in Ash/Maple.

NO PauFerro being the line in the sand.

    Modern/M5-24 Metros as well.

Otherwise, no thankee sai, and I wish you nothing but the best with your 'this Bolivian goat-herder hand-whittles these single-cut 6-strings at or above the level of anyone at the Ken Smith or Fodera workshops'.

More pics to come, and mayhaps some clips as well, that I can promise will only contain 20% 'slappy tappy' stuff.

This bass is a special kind of thing. Almost don't wanna sell it and just scrimp and save to cover the other one I have headed this way. The roasted birdseye has a slight roll-off in the high-end as compared to normal maple-necked basses of this ilk, and an added warmth in the mids/low-mids that just kills. It has 'that J-Bass thing' going, but thicker and broader.

Kind of what I was chasing all of those years I toyed around with MTD's, and without all the switches/mid-knob combos to consider.

Mono Gig Bag Included. Do not have the HSC in the photos.

    More to come.

Does it sound like a Modern 5?

Completely different beast. More of a thicker, wider take on the JBass sound. Modern being more in the Ken Smith zone.

So it basically sounds like a JBass? Or slighty different?

I see you have an MV5-24 by your profile.
I've owned a few of those as well.
It's in that ball park ... you might hear what I hear in a 24-fret vs 21-fret when it comes to slap, in that the 21 fret has a more open, less-compressed tone (again IMO) ... but the soap bars are less classic-J inspired and closer to the 'modern' sound of an MTD. Just a wider footprint tonally. Some might prefer the tighter sound of a true J pickup.

My flats-strung PJ5 is my main player, but on the 2 gigs I played this bass on (modern R&B/Neo-Soul) it really did fit that profile 'modern 5-string thing' perfectly.

Hope that helps. Lots of subjective hoopty-doodle, and there's always something to describing subjective impressions about 'tone' that feels like doing interpretive dance to explain quantum mechanics.

I 've bought a standard M5-24 Metro last week, and saw another advert about a classic NYC M5-24 upgraded with Seymours D. switchable humbuckers to single coils. I was meditating for weeks which one I'd choose, but the price and maple fingerboard won against the NYC.
Don't you think about this kinda change of Pups?

I wouldn't know, except that judging against what I have right now ... it'd probably give you more of a mid-kick and the ability to go full-on 'JBass on Steroids'. Just a guess though. Sounds awesome.

There definitely is a volume drop-off when I go to the neck pickup. That's not the case with the NYC PJ5 I have. That neck pickup slap tone is a bit more in the Pbass camp, because of the soapbar 'thing'. At least that's my takeaway.

To answer some of the questions above in a different way ... yes, it's in the J-Bass genealogy, but more of a cousin. Like how Czech culture is somewhat Germanic, but has a bit more of it's own unique flavor. Beer and sausage, but spicier.

I'm not really a 'J guy' at heart, but for all of the Jazz Basses I've owned/gigged (Multiple modern Fenders ... gigged a 67' and a 62' Pre-CBS) I would offer that the Alleva Coppollo basses I went through in the last year of GAS trading were the closest to a 'pure' JBass in tone/feel.

Might be willing to entertain eloquently-phrased offers, provided there’s no snark and/or ‘is this guy serious’ low ball offers. Rodney Dangerfield references are always appreciated, and I should add that if one had an Aguilar DB750 plus cashola, I’d be willing to entertain that particular piece of kit. Last part of that sentence is a reflection of me re-watching Peaky Blinders on Netflix.

Elmore Leonard's always good for a quick read ... I always tell people to start with 'Rum Punch', 'Killshot' or 'Tishomingo Blues' ... but I'm really digging George V Higgins' so-called 'Boston trilogy'. 'Friends of Eddie Coyle' (what the Robert Mitchum movie was based off of), then 'Digger's Game' (reading that one now) and then 'Cogan's Trade', which became the underrated movie 'Killing them Softly' with not-his-typical-role Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini (RIP).

    Good stuff.

George V Higgins is almost purely dialogue-driven. Very little narrative that lets you know where you are in time/space, but absolutely nails street vernacular. Elmore Leonard said that reading Higgins' 'Friends of Eddie Coyle' really changed how he wrote, and for my money, Elmore Leonard is a more enhanced approach to this same style. More humor for one.

Also, roasted maple is considered 'artisanal'. Just think of responding to a local fellow bassists' query with 'actually ... it's roasted'.
