I'm thinking about buying a Sadowsky outbaord preamp. What I really want to know is: Would it be redundant to have a 2 band EQ such as the Sadowsky after something like an active stingray? Would this EQ add anything to my 'ray? Thanks
You can stack as many as you want. The real question is, why do you think you need it? I have a total of 5 gain stages from my active bass to my amps input, (amp's pre being #6), but they aren't all on at the same time. So long as you don't over do the gain and clip your amps input, no harm done.
Well what I'm planning to do it run two channels. Channel 1 is a wet channel with a vt bass (for that warm, fat sound and bbpreamp for distortion on top of the vt. Channel 2 would be clean channel where the sadowsky would live.
I found the Sadowsky to be great with passive Jazz basses, but when I started playing Stingrays I found the Sadowsky did not compliment it well at all. Sounded better without it. The Sadowsky was retired. I am also using a VT Bass always on.
Interesting..so if I wasn't to use any sort of preamp in channel two should I use an eq pedal or nothing at all?
You already know that your Stingray sounds better without it. So why bother? Why would it be different this time?
