I don't know if this is the right section for this, but here goes. I'm really agonizing over letting my '73 Jazz go. A friend suggested a Sadowsky outboard preamp. Does anyone here have any experience with one of Roger's outboard pre's? If they are as good as I think, then I'm keeping my '73 Jazz!

There are some threads about it in the pickups forum.

  4. I used one when i had my '72 jazz. I was very happy with it.

I would encourage you to try it before you sell the '73.

    Good luck!

It's a stompbox version of the Jretro, and it's supposed to be killer. If it sounds as good as the onboard JRetro in my Jazz (and, i'm sure it does), you should give it a athought, too.

    Thanks guys.
Bassmonkee: Is that what you have in your '75 re?
I found your bass to be VERY responsive. Nice sound, too.

I've tried the Sadowsky outboard preamp with a few Jazz basses. They sound great and make the bass "come alive".

If you're into that Marcus Miller slap tone, one of these preamps and a new set of strings will get you pretty close to that sound.

Yup, that's what's in there (along with overwound Fralins--those help, too;) ). I thought about offering that bass for your '73--I thought it'd be cool to have a Jazz from the year I was born. But, I can't bear to part with my Reissue now that I finally have it the way I want it.

I use the Sadowsky preamp on my 72 jazz also. I got the little box about 6 years ago, and it's almost like it's part of my J-bass - it really beefs up the sound, but in a tight, rather than a boomy way. I'd keep the bass if you like it, and try one of these things - it really makes a difference.
