Anybody own one of these, and are they worth $300+. I practice a lot late at night (kids and wife in bed) with ear phones on using CDs. Only thing is, my little mixer has no EQ. This might solve it.
I have one and like it. As a pure headphone amp, I prefer the Raven Labs PHA-1, but the Sadowsky gives you the Sadowsky preamp and a DI. I wanted it all in one box, so I sold my PHA-1 and Sadowsky beltclip preamp.
I got one last summer at BassNW, and I use it just about every day. As a practice amp, it's great. It has more EQ capability than the Raven Labs model, if you like more bass and treble in your ears. It's more than loud enough, and I've been using the same cheap 9V cells that came with it for months now. It also has excellent mixing capabilities for use with a CD player. The other reason I bought it is because I wanted to try using it with my passive basses to get the Sadowsky active sound, and I think it does very well in that respect, too. Turned my old Jazz into a Sadowsky, yes it did. I don't think it's worth $300, based on the parts count inside the box and the fact that the whole thing is made in Taiwan, but it's worth it if it does the job, and I ain't complaining about the cost.
