to anyone who has the experience please enlighten me with this one. It will also be my first 5 string bass. I play in a rock, blues band primarily...sometimes r&b and learning the jazz. I got tired of down tuning all the time when doing covers so i decided to try and learn the 5s. Anyway back to the topic, what would be the tonal difference between the 2? They have the same preamp am i right? But the WL has the added mid boost? Thank you so much! Cheers!

  2. The Sadowsky Will Lee model is the only Sadowsky I've ever played and instantly loved. I tried a couple of M5 models and they never felt quite right, the same as the Metros. That's just my personal opinion, but the a Will Lee model has a very focused sound and feel that I liked a lot.

The only thing technically you want to consider with a 5 is getting used to using the B string as a thumb rest - It's necessary, as the B has a natural resonance which booms on its own if you don't stop it.

Hope you find your ideal bass!

Both are great, having said that I personally fell in love with modern 24 I played some time ago. Up to your taste, man.

They really are not similar. Do you want an active Jazz with a mid control, or a modern soapbar sound like a Ken Smith or Cirrus?

I had a M5-24 once and that says it all... Go for the Will Lee.

Which one do you think mixes with the band better? I'm not familiar with a ken smith sound. Hearing from the clips and music of bass players who plays the modern 24, I really like how easily they can cut through the mix.

Sadowskys are known for cutting through the mix period. The Modern 24 sounds very close to a Ken Smith or Peavey Cirrus, so if you like Sadowsky Moderns, you already like the Ken Smith sound.

I voted Modern since that is what the OP already knows.
