Same key placement?

  1. I just switched my tuning to B,E,A,D. I'm going to meet with my guitarist for a jam session some time this week. I was wondering if I can still get the correct key by just looking at where the guitarist fingers are. He's still in standard tuning.

Something tells me this is going to be a really stupid question I just asked, but I gotta make sure.

  2. If the guitarist is playing an C-major chord and you want to play the root, yeah, it's still a C. However, C is now in a different spot on your bass. You may want to spend some time before this jamming reviewing where notes are now.

Here's a question: What if your guitarist has been watching YOU for the chords he should be playing? :D
