I have said it in so many words before, but when it comes to getting Leo Fender created tones, the Sandberg VM5 maybe the most versatile bass in the world. Skip the first 3:45 unless you speak Japanese.
Oh well, at least I knew it was not Chinese and Japanese and Korean are related. Did it show Korean writing during video? I tend to notice these things.
I just love how these basses sound like Jazzes when slapped. I suspect Sandberg and Sadowsky are my En Vogue basses (never gonna get it,) but a man can look and lust, kind of like I used to do when I watched the real En Vogue.
Yep. That's pretty much as good as a passive bass can sound. And I'm pretty sure those passive Fender sounds are coming from an active Sandberg.
Man, I’m gassing pretty hard for a Sandberg. The only issue is that I’ve never actually had one in my hands. They embody exactly what I’m looking for in my next bass, I love all of the samples I hear, and I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about the feel and build quality, but I’ve never actually played one
Roger that. I'm still on a quest for the perfect five string. Right now, my Thumb has 1st chair on my five string list, but my Dingwall is taking another run at the title. The thing about my Dingwall is that, even when my playing is crappy, my Dingwall makes me sound good. I've been eyeballing these Sandbergs though, this thread is timely. The problem is, I'm a four string player, and I haven't found a fiver that is the perfect substitute.
There was a VM5 in a shop local to me a few months ago or so. I was so stoked to lay hands on it. Build quality and tones were fantastic but I just... I didn’t like it. I knew I should, but something about the upper fret access and geometry of it just didn’t jive with me the way I felt it should. That being said, I wouldn’t kick it outta my bed for eating cookies, ya know?
dr cheese. i have to agree. I was able to play some Sandbergs at namm this year. They sounded great, and played even better. And I was just using them in passive mode! I flew home and ordered one. I cant wait to get it but its still a few weeks out. In the meantime I will be playing a California grand dark on our next tour!! I ordered a V, the grand dark is a T, I'm excited as heck about both of them. Great instruments, great company.
I think you'll find them more available in the near future. This was their first year at NAMM and I think Holger was excited by the reception they received. I'm pretty certain they'll have a presence in the US shortly and you should definitely keep an eye out at your local boutique shop... or next time you're in Chicago stop by chicago music exchange
One of these days I'll end up with a 4 string one of these guys. But after that and a kawai f2b, I think I may be done buying basses
Sounds good Dr. C. Mr. Tobias and Mr. Pedulla wanted to mostly have their own sound, the Sandbergs seem to lean toward the old school sounds that we all know and love.... I am digging it.
I'm interessted in the P-MM configuration lately and I have recently found the poor man's Sandberg VM - the Harley Benton Enhanced MP-4 and MP-5. The reviews seem to be really positive. I have also found a comparison between a Sandberg in JM configuration and Harley Benton Enhanced JM and there was almost no difference I'm waiting for the availability of the PM 4 string version in natural Edit: There is also the new Cort with splittable MM humb and non-reversed P, but they are no available anywhere.
