What can I do to fix a TUSQ nut I’ve sanded a hair too narrow for the slot? It’s sliding in the slot when I put the strings on.

A drop of crazy glue in the bottom should do it. It will still gently tap out with a hammer when needed.

Should I glue it before I finish filing the slots?

  5. I usually get the slots pretty close or done before I glue the nut in. If it is moving around it might be easier to get it mostly there then glue then finish. Remember, whatever glue you use, you really just need a drop or two. You’ll appreciate it if the nut ever has to come back out.

    Thanks for your help.

  7. Agreed...a drop on each end of the slot.

I never use glue on the bottom of the nut. I like 2 micro drops on the end of the fingerboard.

Well, remember this isn't a normal situation either, the OP said the nut is too narrow for the slot. Putting the CA on the bottom of the nut ensures the CA is covered by the nut.

I put the tiniest drops in the slot. It was easier than trying to get the adhesive on the nut, which has a runnier surface. It’s holding fast and is invisible.

However, a did manage to get a giant glob on my fingers. I’m suspecting Goo Gone or mineral oil may remove that!

    Thanks again.

Cyanoacrylate? If so, nail polish remover (acetone) takes it off in a snap.

Yes. Thanks for the tip. Most of it flaked off. I haven’t used that stuff since I was a kid!
