Wondering how many of you out there use a Sansamp BDDI as a standalone preamp. Currently I'm running my bass directly into my BDDI then to a rack compressor (DBX 166xl) than direct to my poweramp (Stewart World 2.1). I'll get some pics if I get the chance. Reason I'm wondering is, I'm trying to see if it's worth buying a rack preamp if I'm happy with the BDDI. I though about the RBI, but all that seems to add is a MID knob and an effects loop. My current BDDI setting are Level - 12:00 Blend - 12:00 Treble - 11:30 Bass - 1:00 Drive - 11:00 Presence - 10:00 As you can tell I try to keep a pretty clean sound. Most of my eq'ing is done through my Audere. Any suggestions out there to perhaps a suitable preamp. BTW, something under a grand please.
Hey - Yeah, I'm using a programmable BDDI into my Carvin DCM1000 into a GK 4x10 for a few years now. Great so far. Am using a punch factory for compression... Very versatile preamp.
My practice amp is an SWR Workingman 10 with a deltalite II. I used to run a BDDI directly into the effects return and know I run a PDDI the same way. Great sound from a little unit. I also ran my PDDI directly into the effects return of a Superfly.
i liked the bass driver right in. but its not anywere near the quality of the rbi. if i were you id get the rbi and use the bass driver with it. i feel like the rbi is alot more articulate and more of a preamp then just a stomp box. either or works pretty good i just like the rbi better.
Thanks for the advice, playibanez. It's good to hear that the RBI isn't just a rack mounted BDDI. Maybe worth the cash then.
yea check out the older rbi threads there is a bunch of peoples opinions. the biggest mistake i made was the bddi can get some gnarly distortion, the rbi doesnt come near that. it gets some good overdrive but anything more then that you need to look else where. that is why i was saying the bddi and rbi would be an awesome combo. people also love the rpm for the mid control. so many options ha. search some rbi/rpm threads there is lots of info.
If you are looking for a more detailed version of the BDDI then the RBI is not for you. I've bought 2 RBI's and each time sent them back. Many people love the RBI but for me I couldn't find the sound of me.
