Which combination would be better to send to the mixer and get a tone similar to Simonon in London Calling (or Geezer Butler in the Paranoid Album)? I have a Squier P Bass with a luthier made soft maple body and EMG GZR Pickups.
For easy I would maybe just get the VT as it's a little more vintage sounding than the sansamp, to my ears anyway. I would say EQ and ART MP for Geezer. The sansamp and VT are based on ampegs and Geezer used a Laney guitar tube head for the Paranoid album. Use the EQ to cut the lows a little and put flats on the bass and play hard over the end of the fret board. For a Simonon tone I would say VT or Sansamp, it sounds like flats again (or well worn rounds) played with a pick and an ampeg sound. You could simulate an ampeg type tone with the EQ, cut the highest and lowest frequencies a little and around 800hz.
