    Hey Guys,

I'm a little bit new to all this, so if you can help me out I'd appreciate it. I'm running a GK 800RB into an Ampeg 610, I'd like to warm up the sound a little by using a tube emulator and I've heard great things about the RBI.

Can I use the RBI in my effects loop to warm the sound? Am I in danger of frying anything? How exactly is the best way to connect it? And has anyone used this setup and have any comments on the sound?

If this isn't possible can anyone suggest a different way to go about it. And no, I can't afford an SVT head. :)

    Thanks in advance...:)

Um, should this be in the Amp forum?

It will work in front of your amp or in the effect loop, but the best way to use it is to bypass the preamp from your GK.
piling preamps is never a good idea.
You could use an A/B pedal to switch from one pre to the other.

Excuse my ignorance, but how do I bypass the preamp in the GK?

you can use the RBI several ways. I like to use my this way with my swr bass 350 because I like the sound of the tube in the 350, but also like the rbi effect....

    gtr>swrpre>loopsend>rbi input2>"sansamp"/RBI out>swrloopreturn>cab

I have bypassed my head preamp like this sometimes...

    GTR>RBIinput1>sansamp/rbiout>swrloopreturn>cab

    you could also do...GTR>RBIinput>sansamp/RBi out>HEADactive in>cab

Why is it not a good idea to "pile" preamps?

I run a Sansamp Bassdriver infront of an SM900.

    Too much eq???

It adds a lot of noise.
If you use it more like an overdrive pedal or just to adjust bass and treble it's not too bad.
If you send a preamp into another one, you keep boosting the signal again and again.
Resonant frequencies are different and may lead to noise and ruin the balance of your sound.
If one of the preamps is completely transparent it won't change a thing.
Now, your sound will get blurry if you use 2 "warm" tubey preamps together.
