Hey quick question here. I know some cats use RBIs along with their heads, either in front or in the FX loop (even though Tech21 doesn't recommend it) as an effect they switch on and off via the foot switch. For any of those who use the RBI in that way, do you perceive any tone suck when the RBI is disengaged?
Afaik there is no such recommendation against using it in amp fx loops. It has a pad for line level usage.
I used to run my RBI into the effects return on a SWR 750x. On that particularly amp the effects return acts like a power amp in. So I was bypassing the SWR pre amp completely and just using the power amp and limiter in the head. Not all amps work the same way because there are different style effects loops some are parallel some are series, but many amps have an input labeled power amp in. i never bypass my RBI . Instead I use pedals for different tones. With the RBI you don't have to limit yourself to distortions, fuzz, or overdrive pedals. Although that may be the solution for you. A clean boost or a compressor, even a reverb can dramatically change the tone and how the dirt sounds. With my rig my compressor is set to boost my signal and add some compression so I get more consistant clean and dirt out of the RBI. As the RBI is analog and reacts to your playing. I also use a digitech polara, turn off my compressor, or play softly to get cleaner tones.
