woohooo, yes santa has arrived in my house hold early this year, and has managed to fit into his sack a fretless peavey, that i shall be picking up tonight and am very excited about, ive never played a fretless beofre and i am unsure as to how it would be played in comparison to my old red hot sexy tangelwood, what are the main diffirneces? what heppenes when there are no frets?

The main difference is that there are no fretwire on the fretboard. What happens? You will sound horribly out of tune if you don't pay attention to your fretting hand, that's what'll happen. :)

If it is a lined fretless, you must put your fretting hand's fingers exactly ON the line when playing, or else the note won't come out right (which could be desirable in some cases, but not very often).

If it is an unlined fretless, the fret positions are indicated by the side dots on the neck... however, some unlined boards have the sidemarkers in the same places as they would be with a fretted board, which is between the frets - which can cause some confusion.

Get back to us when you know what kind of fretless it is.

Uhm, that's what I would have thought, too.
Gary Willis shows a different experience on his home site (ahhh:mad: where is that  URL?) try garywillis.com.
And when I think about it, it seems reasonable.

well, i got the bass now, it is a peavey foundation (witha customised action and neck thing), it is also lined, and has a great tone, it is the first fretless bass i have ever played, i am enjoying it very much, great tone.
