My Who tribute Who's That at Lakesiders (formerly the Penny Arcade in Rochester NY) The nice weather and the jazz festival downtown impacted out attendance but we didn't let that keep us from rocking out. A few oppsies but overall I am pretty pleased with this performance.
Hi! That's a fun rockin' good time. Cool. Do you guys play a 90 minute show at gigs like this? Thank you for your indulgence, BassCliff
Great tune! Looks like it was a fun time. The light in the stage right almost gave me an epileptic seizure, but that was a great looking show.. BnB
Nice Ox impression there! You clearly put your work into that, and it shows. Good job; thanks for sharing!
Damn fine playing, cool show, upbeat and fun, what's not to like? Like the bass tone too. Thanks for sharing.
You don't mention the band name or the venue, neighbor. EDIT: Thanks, @godofthunder59 for the clarification. I didn’t realize somebody finally opened up the old Penny Arcade. Lots of good memories of that place!
I used to go see Talas there back in the 70's and tons of other great bands both national and local. It's tough to fill the place these days but we keep getting booked there, it's still a thrill to step on that hallowed stage.
We did take a break, unfortunately the minute you take one you lose people. 90 minutes is ideal for a tribute but the booked us for three hours so three hours of The Who it is!
Great clip man!!! You guys were rocking!! Wow, 3 hours, that's a long gig, I can't remember the last time I played that long. In my neck of the woods they want 2x 60 minutes (tribute bands) and I'm cool with that. And yes, taking a break nowadays is not the best idea: back in the days people would stay there and wait for you but now the minute the band stops, people have all kinds of reasons to leave. With my +LIVE+ tribute band, the more and more we look to book gigs early in the evening, say from 9 pm to 11 pm, it seems (older) folks appreciate that a lot better. Long gone are the days where you'd finish your last note around 2:45 am!!! Keep on rocking man!!! Thanks for the clip!!!
Agggghh...I've turned off ad blockers and I'm still getting "Cannot load Facebook SDK. Disable any adblocker or tracking protection and try again." (FWIW: I played at the Penny Arcade about a million years ago, right up by the lake. I don't suppose Ronnie's Suburban is still in business, down by RIT?)
Sounds good. For me personally, when a band labels itself a "Tribute" Band, I expect them to be "Spot On", both Sonically and Visually.... With the rise of the "Tribute Band" scene, I've found the a large percentage of them lack in both areas.... Just doesn't do it for me...
To each thier own , cheesy wigs and costumes don't do it for me and in the tribute biz there is a backlash against this very thing. Sonically I'll put Who's That up against any Who tribute. We do live versions of songs mainly bassed on 69-75 performances. My rig is very close to Entwistles '69-70 setup and my basses are spot on. My mode of dress is culled from various Entwistle ensembles this night it was his patches denim jacket, some nights it's fringe others black leather, most of wich comes out of my personal wardrobe. The guirarist is wearing a realtivly accurate mundane Pete outfit, the drummer a tshirt Keith was known to wear and our singer Mike well he's the best singer I have ever worked with in 40 plus years in this biz, I don't think a curly blond wig is going to make him sing better. Most tributes are cheesy cardboard cutouts both sonically and visually, given one or the other I'll take sounding the part any time. I've heard criticism that our "Pete" wasn't doing the windmill the other night, he hurt his shoulder about a month ago doing just that. You just can't please some people. Thank you for your critique though.
And thats where we see thing differently. IMO, if someone is going to tag themselves a "Tribute", I expect the whole experience, Sonically and Visually. And more times than not the majority of tribute bands miss the mark in one or the other if not both departments.
