Needing a backup bass, and want something in the P family.

Found a G&L SB-2 Tribute for $400, and a Fender Aeordyne Precision (MIJ) for $525. Haven't played either before.

All things being equal (condition, etc.) , any advice you can give?

I own an Aerodyne P and I think it's great. It has great versatility and looks. Can't comment on the G&L. I bet that's a solid bass as well. Both of those prices seem quite reasonable.
  3. You need to try both as the necks are very different, same with the pickups.

the g&l will have hotter pickups and no tone control. it's a very aggresive bass but can be tamed by string it with flats and/or backing off the volume controls. both have jazz style necks but the profiles may be different. i would go with the g&l, just out of personal preference.
