SB1 : Deep Impact

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by AllodoX, Apr 10, 2002.

  1. Ok.. some time ago i got a Boss SYB-3 to try some funky stuff out with bass synth.. but.. it's somewhat limited.. i use it a lot now, but different songs require different settings..

so i was thinking of getting an other synth.. my eye fell to the Akai SB1 : Deep Impact, coz it can do presets.

But how does it sound ? gimme some samples !

Just record a root-note open E with some synth-FX on it..

pictures of your Deep Impact and other info on the pedal is also very welcome.. also post your favorite presets, so i can try them out when i get the chance to test one of these pedals..

but above all.. gimme sample recordings ! :D

  2. Awwww, I knew you'de become a synth junkie eventually; I'm so proud! (lol) :D

Try checking out the EH Bass Micro Synth, I think I suggested it to you earlier. It produces some really great classic and very warm synth bass sounds, but sucks if you want modern sounds like with your SYB-3 or the Deep Impact. It's not as squiltchy either, transparent at times but very seemless, but it can be if a different filter is used with it. The tracking is very, very impressive, anolog devices are great for that.

I do suggest the Deep Impact if you want those funky synth bass/porno movie sounds inside the box. But the EH Bass Micro Synth is the most musical synth I've ever used.

I don't have any MP3's of my Deep Impact, but I like mine a lot! I recently got the Boss GT-6B and to me the synth sounds suck.......so I'm going to keep my Akai.

  6. well.. go make some mp3's then ! show us what you got ! :D

well, I got you an mp3, but it's about 1.2 meg and some change.... I just went through every patch and played something, the silly thing has 9 different patches. So how do you want it? I guess I will have to email it to you, just let me know!

BTW, for anyone keeping score at home, I went through the synth strait to the computer with my P-Bass...

You might also want to do a Google search of a.g.b.
there is a really nice guy named Goopy who posted some of his Deep Impact grooves a few weeks back.

    9: Hiccups

    Hope that helps!

  12. Would you mind sending me that mp3? I've been dying to hear the SB-1. I've been looking around for a used one, but I haven't had any luck yet. If it's that good, I may buy a new one.

alright, a new and better idea! I just threw up (how appropriate) a geocities site, and it looks like I did it correctly... the synth demo is at this page.

    http://www.geocities.com/pmk83/index.html

you should be able to download it from there! you will have to right click and "save target as" but it should work...

  16. That sounds pretty good, I bet it would be fun to use as a dub tool (yes I used the dub tool phase beat you to it MS, haha) but I like the brighter sounding ones at the front, and the fat bottem was pretty low too.
