Scale Harmonization

Discussion in 'General Instruction [BG]' started by BassPanther, Apr 6, 2002.

  1. I've spent a good amount of time with scale harmonization. How can I apply into constructing a bass line?

I hope this is what you mean, so here goes...

In a band situation, you want to hear what is going on above you, listen to what chords the guitarist is playing. Listen to intervals and the melody. You want to construct a chord progression.

Say your guitarist plays C F G7 C (this is your most basic chord progression: I IV V I). It'd be the easiest to work with the 1st and 3rd of the chord. Add a little flavor with passing tones and chromatic notes. Or try playing arpeggios.

    Hope this helps.
