Scarf joint question..

  1. Greetings,

    Quickly becoming addicted to this building thing but had a curious question. If Im going with a scarf joint on my neck does the "headstock" side have to be from the same "billet" to be strong and stable. Basically I have some hard maple..but am a little short for what I want to do. Can I cut my scarf angle on my current neck and then cut a scarf headstock from a separate neck and glue it on?

    Sure, many builders do that. I'm building a prototype with Ash neck and Padouk headstock. :D

    It's relatively common.

    Here's a neck I made a couple years ago:
