Schecter 5-String Studio Series

I've enjoyed this bass and it's got a great sound, but recently I've been noticing some problems.

It has the EMG-40Hz active pickup system and it seems to be fading out. I can unplug the cable from the jack on the bass and it just seems like there's a short but I'll get my volume back for a few moments, then it fades out again. I'm also getting buzz and feedback from it.

Does this sound strictly like pickups? When purchasing new ones, do the pots come with them? It just seems to me that I need to re-wire the whole instrument. Are there other pickups from anyone else's experience, that are preferable to the stock EMG's it came with?
