I would put the wood wedge in there and then trim the cork to fit and be done. I farted around for years with not great fits and Mcgiverd solutions, and when I finally had my luthier put it in right I stopped having trouble. I put my StatB back in in the past few days and I am really digging it (especially with the Tonedexter) I have gone thru the vintage two element model and I think the single version is better (on the E side on some basses...some other basses have weird unevenness that is projected thru the pickup)

Double Bass Schertler Stat B Vintage revisited

It's fascinating that this pickup is one folks seem to return to. When these pickups first came on the market, there was nothing like them. Charlie Hayden loved his, Todd Colemann used one. Steve La Spina had one as well.
Stephan Schertler really took pickups out of the dark ages. At the time, I just couldn't afford one, but now I'm considering this pickup again. I'm always looking for pickups that I can use with ebony adjusters. In my case the Ehrlund EAP sounds really good, so it's always a consideration and it's a lot easier to mount on my bass.

Yesterday I flipped the jumper on my Felix back to 12v for ch1 and for kicks mixed the Stat B and Yamahiko. Whoa. Who needs a Tonedexter?
Well I committed one half of a Stat B vintage to a new arrangement: both it and a single Yamahiko wired to a stereo TRS plug that takes a single stereo cord to the Felix where each has a channel (it took a think, but I got the 12v of the Felix to power the Stat B on Ring and the Y into the higher Imp Ch 2. The Stat B preamped by the Felix is so good a sound, it can be really mic like yet nice and thumpy. Somehow the two of them together is just excellent. And having just one cord to the preamp but two different pickups is way cool.
I will second that experience of the StatB to the Felix just being absolutely stellar. When I first heard it, I thought this silly mic nonsense I've been putting myself through for years may have been all for naught.
I'm stuck with this, and what to do.. I can't use the double element cause it just phases out. Maybe somebody else has use for the dual element.

I'd be very careful about doing something like that. The Stat B is an Electrostatic (thus it's name
) if you damaged the shielding it could create problems. As I've been led to understand there is a electrical charge running to the elements
Before you try that, I'd drop a line to Schertler and see what the issues were. The original Stat B ran two
connections to the preamp. One thing you might try, is just removing one of the elements, from your bridge an play it to see if the
sound improves. They you can go down the road of what to do with the extra element.
uh, or you can get out a soldering iron and go for it (like I did) it is just a regular live and ground (I rewired mine with another pickup to a stereo jack works fine no internal hardware.
One thing I was tempted to do was separate them and run EACH to their own chan of the Felix (like I did with the Y.) THen you can eq phase HPF separately. In my experience and present setup having two different pickups run that way has the best sound and function.

Yep you sure can, I used to be profficent with a soldering iron, made my own bass and microphone cables even built a Knight Kit Walkie Talkie (with my dads help). These days, I'm not sure I'd attempt it, but that's just me.

Grace Felix. Baggs GigPro. Headway. Basically any preamp that will send out a bit of power. I've been using the Schertler Basik pre before the Tone Dexter. Not sure how it might be different tonally from the StatB pre but it doesn't seem to eat batteries at all.

Not in my experience using Stat pre and Gigpro pre. I change the battery every 3 months or so with about 15 hours a week use. I don't unplug on breaks either.
