my favorite dual coil humbuckers out there are the seymour duncan duals fodera uses in their basses. to me they sound like spongier/fatter jazz bass pickups. the have a similar frequency response in the lows and high mids like a single coil jazz set. odd in that they have some bitey upper mids while still being parallel wired. most of the other humbuckers ive heard are the opposite. glassy/hi-fi/super modern sounding. my bass has aguilar dcbs in it right now and its all lows and airy highs. im missing some upper mid cut/bite. is there a bart model out there that will do the trick? maybe one wired in series? id rather not spend a ton of dough on something custom only to not dig them and not be able to sell them.
i was going to ask carey his thoughts too. im hesitant to order some because i need an 18mm set. if i dont like them, i figure im stuck with them. i had you guys do some some custom big splits for my old fodera years ago and that turned out to be a huge mistake. the clips ive heard of the parallel set sound closer to the glassy humbucker thing than what the duncans do...
it would help to know what's the duncan's impedance reading (even tough it's just a small part of the equation) Is it for how many strings?
dont know the impedance or inductance but the dcr of each coil is around 10k in the duncans. the set id need is for this bass
P2-5 with 18mm should not be too difficult to sell (in case it doesn't work out), but of course it is all relative…. let me check some details tomorrow (?)
10k for each coil in the pickup. so 5k or so parallel. i dont remember the exact readings but they floated at around high 9k per coil.
i took a huge hit on the big splits so im trying to avoid that again. ive got some 4 string duals of your guys' that have proven to be nearly unsellable. i think the biggest obstacle is agreeing on tone descriptions and preferences. i know you guys all dig the big singles/big splits etc and think they sound great and i dont dig them at all.
