Just scored this beauty. I know she's no museum piece, but I gig my basses and don't want to be afraid of scratching or dinging them. So for me, this is perfect.

The guy told me that the electronics are all original, so I bought her!!!!! Finally, an old J at a price that I could afford (well, it's a bit expensive for me, but it's within reach). Come to papa!!!!

Yep, got her from a GC of all places at that price (believe it or not). She is a refin with a non-original pickguard, brass nut and non-original bridge (why would anyone swap the bridge to another Fender styled one????), but the rest of her is original. I guess they priced her for so cheap because of the mods, which worked out for me!

    Congrats. Hope you like it.

  7. Big Deal.. another overpriced iconic bass with no better function than the current crop of Fender basses, you should be ashamed of yourself.. you could have purchased a new J bass for less than that, one that doesn't have the "vintage electronic issues"
I would take it back to GC and demand your money back...

..then send me the store address so I can buy it :p

    +1.

Keep in mind that early '70's Jazz basses are pretty damn rare. I would bet Precisions outsold Jazz basses 4 or 5 to 1.

Great deal regardless of the refin or non-original parts. Looks like a great player. You get sick of it, you make a few hundred bucks when you sell it.:bassist:

  12. Congrats, Quad! Wish I had kept an early 70s P bass that I bought back in '76. Thank goodness I've held on to my '73 Rickenbacker. :D

Yep, I stated that in an early post in this thread. I'll pull the neck and electronics when she gets here to see if I can tell what color she originally was....
