A few of you know I have had GAS for a semi-hollowbody
for quite some time now. I have been drooling over
MAJOR METAL's Jack Casady. as well as Yggdrasil's
sunburst. Unfortunately, the sunburst is discontinued.

I even annoyed Gard once while on a Chicago trip to call
Lakland for me, as Dan had a prototype Skyline in the shop.
This was before Lakland released them. Unfortunately, the
traffic was so bad on the way to O'Hare, I wasn't able to go
by the shop and play it.

I also heard from Funkster that Zoombay over in Sturbridge
MA picked up a Lakland HB and loved it.

Well, Yggdrasil emailed me 2 weeks ago, having spotted
a 'Cassidy' bass on Ebay, ensuring that the searches would
not necessarily reveal it as a Casady bass. He noted that the
BIN price was 650, and that there was NO WAY he would let
    his go for that.

I agonized over this as I had already gone a bit over budget
on other gear, but since these don't come up very often
anymore, I hit the 'I have GAS now' button and bought it.

Turns out the guy who owned it worked in a music store,
and had to thin the herd to make $$$ and room for a '59 P.
It's a '98 and he got it in '99. There was not a scratch on it,
it was in MINT condition with the OHSC. I think the guy
kept it in the closet for 6 years, there are NO scratches at all on the case.

I played it extensively this weekend unplugged, and it is
a marvelously well crafted instrument. The neck is quite thin
and has very fast action. I really like thin necks. It is a
set neck and feels rock solid.

I will give it a workout with the Eden WT-300 and the
Sweet 16 below and see what it really sounds like tomorrow,
when no one is around. Report to come.

The addition of chrome Schaller straplocks were the only changes that needed to be made.

    Thor, you're gonna dig it.
I got my gold top Casady off a g-base vendor for a little less than that...with the ohsc...almost like him paying me to take it;)
I took the cheesy flimsy pickguard off...

I wish they did a cherry burst instead of tobacco.

That is a gorgeous bass. I've been told they sound as good as they look as well.

Deviating slightly, are Casady basses actually available in ebony? Someone told me they were, but i've trawled the internet and all of the photos i've seen are either goldtop or sunburst.

That I am not sure about. I have never seen one in Ebony.

B'Aces, as you know i was looking for that Flameglo Ric as well, but I never found the right one. Keep your eyes open while I re-up the bass fund.

Chef, thanks man. I am not in love with the pickguard either,
you may have inspired a slight modification for the future.
Maybe I will fabricate a wild replacement ...

  8. Sweet! Looks like a keeper. I love my Shoreline Gold HB. Vintage vibe and looks. My singer calls it "The Cadillac".

I'll have to throw on a set at some point.

I haven't played flats since the 70's, it has been forever.
The last set I had were the black plastic flats on a 74
Gibson EB3. When that got stolen, the flats went along.

That bass is sweet. I was really impressed with the binding,
both on that neck and bridge. It gives it a really warm retro
look, which will look good with my old Acoustic rig.

I would not consider it a hijack if you posted a pic of that,
Funkster told me all about it, and how much you are digging it. So post away on those beautiful semi-hollowbody's!

First dibs on that if you ever decide to sell it!
(Haha, I hope I beat Henry to it! )

Deffinanatley the right color Vintage and sunburst is a good thing. Didn't you have one of these when you played with the Parthridge Family? What did you ever do with the old musicmaster?

The Ebay dude made the same mistake you did,
    it's a Casady bass,
    not a Cassidy bass ... :spit: :p

Above a couple of pics sent to me by Fred Hammond,
of JC with his highly modded Guild Starfire II.

That was a sweet hollowbody as well.

Oh yeah, Thor....if your bridge starts pulling out, don't panick;) Just pull the knurled posts out of the body, clean everything well, and put it back together with a dab of superglue gel or titebond woodglue.
I flipped when mine came apart. Apparently it's not uncommon, and it's not a hard fix...

Thanks! Superglue Gel ( Jet C++ ) is an integral part
of the work and modeling bench. Actually, I keep it in the
fridge (next to the Cleareyes eyedrops) till I need it ...
