I'm damn excited. I just won a less than a year old, mint condition Geddy Jazz w/hardcase and Fender Custom Shop 60's for $521. One thing I'm curious about is how the Fender Custom Shop 60's pups compare to the stock ones that come with the guitar. Any insight? Thanks!
Aha! I was wondering that. The description on the Fender site didn't specifically say that the Geddy pups were "Custom Shop 60's" so I thought they might be different. Thanks for clearing that up. Now, like many before me, it's time to start thinking about pickguard colors.
The Geddy comes with "vintage" pups not custom shop pups! They are the "original jazz" pups and have beveled pole pieces. http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0992123000
I just picked up a Geddy Lee with Nordstrand J p/u..perfect, no noise at all! Perfect slap tone! I think is worth the upgrade for sure
+1 I'm gonna put black/silver paisley on mine, but I wanna be the only one, so you go ahead with the tortoise.
The plot thickens. Sound-wise, how do the vintage pups compare to the custom shop pups? And as far as pickguards go, after some heavy consideration, and some amateur photoshopping, I've decided to start off with a black pickguard. I like the tortoise, but something about the black on black just grabs me. I'd like to throw on some all-black metal volume/tone knobs too. Kind of like what comes stock on the MIA P-Bass, but in black.
