Finally found a cheap backup/beater bass to leave around my church just in case, god forbid, I pop a string or start having electronics issues mid set. Found it on CL for 50... Messaged the guy, and now I am picking it up for $45 tonight! It definitely has some wear, character, and stories about it, I won't be worried about hurting it in a thrashing around situation. I'll post more about it once I get the bass.
Wow good thinking! I should buy a cheap bass for my church too as a beater and a backup in case my Fenders go haywire! Good score, too! Here in Vancouver, people are stupid and want at least $100 for a Squier AFFINITY....you gotta be kidding me.
For that kind of money, I wouldn't pass it up. I was thinking about buying a cheap bass to relic, just to see what kind of job I could do. Can't go wrong for $45.
I bought one really recent for $50 bucks. The guy scratched Cannibal into the paint, but I use it alot for jamming on my lunch breaks or at the park, along with an amplug. My $87 "wireless" practice bass setup.
I have been seeing "good deals" on CL for guitar and amp affinity packages for $300. It is just as bad here, I simply got lucky. Still a fender, just not the revered kind!  yep, saw this, I couldn't pass it up! I had given up on finding a cheap backup bass, but then this showed up! Lol, that is one way to get coworkers not to mess with you! Sweet deal, but I would probably remove the etchings.
Alright, finally got it! The only things wrong: pickguard is warped at controls, hard to turn knobs. As if they only unscrewed the part with the controls, bent it up, and spent the next few days on a soldering project. No big deal, I'll heat it up and bend it back. Controls are a little crackly, nothing contact cleaner cannot help. I'll tweak the truss to improve action at 12th. The good: everything else seems great so far, especially for a $45 bass. Neck is comfortable, action seems decent, plays smoothly, feels natural to hold. The super size headstock and tuners are definitely new to me, I never knew my minimalistic headstock basses had such small headstocks. Nut width is more narrow than I am used to, but string spacing is perfect. The name Molly fits this bass very well after playing it... Name made no sense until I played it. Still makes no sense, but it fits. Sorry about the long post describing an old beat up affinity P bass guys... Did I mention it came with a heavy duty gig bag?
I got a red one last spring for $30, but the neck was U-shaped, and no amount of tweaking could save it. A $60 replacement from eBay made it playable.
Great score....these are quite playable ..especially for a backup you can row the canoe home with,.I recently bought one on evil bay in mint condition for $95 with a 50 dollar gigbag ,kept the bag and pawned it for $100...goes out tomorrow..I may go back and get it!
Sorry to kill the party but I had bought multiple of the Squiers for $40.... Same here in Portland, but here they actually sell for $100....
"Finally found a cheap backup/beater bass to leave around my church just in case, god forbid, I pop a string or start having electronics issues mid set." Sorry, had to laugh...wouldn't that location be the absolute LEAST likely place for a failure being as that is sort of the "God Forbids Home Office?" Sort of like totaling your car through the window of the insurance agent's office...pretty unlikely. Nice score, have fun with it!!
It comes with a name, I believe that's extra mojo points. Should've left the Neversoft sticker on, that's vintage.
I just traded an original xbox for a squire p bass special... I plan on stripping the paint with a heat gun and changing the electronics.
You ***have to*** buy it for $45. Clean 'er up, set 'er up, good to go. Now change your name to Molly for a perfect fit.
the drummer in my band bought an affinity for around that price, but it sat with its rusty strings, he barely plays bass (but owns three of them). I spent an hour with it last week putting on new strings, adjusting truss rod and saddles. That's what I played most of band practice on Saturday. I think the fact I rescued it myself makes me think it sounds better!
Here I was glorying in the fact that I got an Affinity P for $50, but you come and pop my bubble with a $45 Affinity P I guess I'll ask the dude for a refund, haha, enjoy your bass!
