Scott Amendola Band

Discussion in 'Music [DB]' started by lermgalieu, Apr 1, 2003.

  1. I saw the Scott Amendola band the other night here in Portland at the Fez:

    Drums: Scott Amendola
    Bass: Todd Sickafoose
    Gee-tar: Nels Cline
Horns (soprano, tenor saxes): Eric Crystal

Quite an amazing show. I don't know if you are familiar with Scott, he's the drummer on Charlie Hunter's Nattie Dread and Ready, Set, Shango! albums among other things. Nels Cline has been on more albums than I could mention here, including the those with the wonderful Nels Cline Trio.

Anyway, these guys really rip it up. Todd has a big woody sound and can play the gamut from modal vamps to straight ahead bop. Scott has wrists like butter, and Nels is just all over the place - kind of like Mcglaughlin meets Sonic Youth. I heartily reccomend this show of mostly originals in support of Scott's new album "Cry"...
