two questions about seymour duncan Quarter Pound for Jazz Bass SJB-3:

why the poles on the QP pickups are sunk in the pickup cover?

is it possible to raise them? is it matter and alter the sound?

Why would you want to raise them? Do you want them closer to the strings for more output, or some other reason?

  3. That's just the style.

Trying to hammer the pole pieces up may damage the coil windings.

I would not worry at all about that. I have a Jazz bass with these and WOW what a punch they have.

My Jazz will give a Precision's thump a run for it's money.

The poles are 1/4" in diameter. Because the magnets are pretty strong you don't want them sticking too far above the pickup and close to the strings. So they are flush with the top of the pickup, and are below the holes. They would actually make more sense with a closed cover.
