Seeing Dave Brubeck tonight!

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by bass87, May 12, 2003.

  1. Get to see man himself live in concert tonight in Symphony Hall, Birmingham. Should be a great night.

I'll think I'll have a day off revising, chill out and listen to my Dave Brubeck albums all day. I'll let everyone know what it was like tomorrow.

Anyone seen him before? Or Going tonight?

I saw him last night at The Anvil in Basingstoke.

    Very good.

Same configuration as his classic quartet - piano, bass, drums, alto. Still, very good - Brubeck is 82, and the guy can still play like ever. He did some new material, and some old Take Five era tunes - but all very accessible, very Brubeck-esque.

    You'll like it.

  3. Is his backing group still all his sons? I have a recording of him with the London Symphony Orchestra and the main quartet were all Brubecks. That still the case?

    No. The band is:

Bobby Militello - Alto Sax & Flute
    Michael Moore - Bass
    Randy Jones - Drums

  5. What an amazing gig!

All the musicians were amazing, especially the drummer, his solo during Take Five was something else. Dave Brubeck sure can still play, even at 82!

    You were right Moley :D

Yup, Randy Jones did a monster solo in Take Five at the gig I saw too.
