Gents Long story short I purchased an 8T I used it with my Ampeg SVT 3Pro and fell in love I purchased the PJB M-500 amp, connected the 8T and the love grew deeper Because the 16B was 130lbs I decided on the 6T/9B cabs So I have the M-500 sitting on top of the 6T which in turn sits on the 9B I have been unable to sell the 8T so I want to use it as part of the current rig configuration if I can More 5 speakers make for greater bottom end Now the technical side 6T is 12 Min Imp Ohms 9B is 8 Min Imp Ohms 6T/9B combined is 4.8 Min Imp Ohms 8T is 16 Min Imp Ohms (equivalent 2x10) How do I connect these speakers in a way that will enhance my rig? The manual states: DO NOT CONNECT CABINETS TOGETHER THAT HAVE A DIFFERENT NUMBER OF DRIVERS ACROSS. (EXAMPLE: A 6T ON TOP OF A 16B This will put more power through the top cabinet, making it work harder and will limit your total power handling.) However ??? M-500 Specifications: RATED POWER: 8 Ohm 280W 4 Ohm 510W 2 Ohm 720W S/N RATIO: >85dB FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 10Hz - 20kHz DISTORTION THD: <0.05% @1kHz 1/10 Rated Power OUTPUT CONNECTOR: NL4 Speakon
The problem is that with 8 8ohm drivers you can only get 16 or 4 ohms overall. If you disconnect one of the drivers in the 9B, it could be wired to 4 ohms. then wire the 6T to 6 ohms, than that should all line up.
THANKS PHIL! I am posting your response for the benefit of others... ************************************************************* As the designer of this equipment, I strongly suggest that you do NOT disconnect one driver on the 9B and wire it to 4 ohms, leaving one driver to be "freewheeling". This will cause this odd driver to act as a drone cone or passive radiator seriously impairing the bass performance of this enclosure. Acoustic loading of loudspeakers is an exact science these days and it is not possible to improve the performance beyond what these cabinets can already do. Anyone who even tries or suggests something like this is showing they do not have the thorough understanding of loudspeakers.
